Perhaps KFC?

So taking an Internet crash course on Japanese culture...lots of rapid fire search phrases and terms and scads of quickly scanning for good information. It appears that KFC is a bit of a sensation in Japan and becoming a quasi-traditional Christmas food (though the holiday is not yet celebrated by a majority) and quite popular. Hmmm....but might go on the list. There is one at 1140 N.W. Market Street according to their website. I just don't recall it....maybe it is further down near the Locks. Oooh, grab some KFC and eat on a blanket at the Locks might be super nice. But sunset is now about 7:10pm so need to be aware. But oldest isn't a big fan.

Friday (day of arrival) - Maybe we grab our KFC and head to Golden Gardens to watch the sunset? Now *that* sounds like a plan. Pick up food about 5pmish and then drive to Golden Gardens with some blankets, drinks in coolers, maybe s'more makings but not sure we'd get a fire pit on a Friday. Leave once dark (7:15-7:30pm).

So looks like the KFC is east of 15th (11th & Market) so once we grab food, head west on Market, take the turn north as it becomes Seaview past the Locks, and then straight on up into Golden Gardens.

Fun, fun!

Will Be Here Soon

So our middle school exchange student from Japan will arrive this coming Friday. Tomorrow is the day to get the room ready (he'll be sharing with our middle school son) and trying to plan out activities and good down time as well. So far...

Friday - The students arrive that day and go home with their host families. Figuring we do nothing that day but head to the house and have a good meal. What should we cook?

Saturday - My husband has a friend's wedding on the Olympic Peninsula but the youngest has a soccer game and soccer pictures and oldest likely has an ultimate game that day. Husband will leave around 10am for the afternoon wedding, me and the boys will drive out later and arrive around 8 or 9pm. Plan that day is likely good breakfast for all, then pack two days of lunches (one for on the road in evening, one for during the day on Sunday), do activities with the boys and then drive out to the peninsula. What about lunch that day in the hood?  Perhaps a choice of movies for the road...what should they be?

Sunday - Have breakfast at the hotel or nearby. Hike the Lake Quinault Loop Trail (3.5 miles, flat, beautiful). Trailhead is ?? Then drive north around the west side of the peninsula and then see if the salmon are running up ?? Continue to drive around the peninsula and take the ferry from XX to YY and then drive home.

Monday - The middle schoolers go to class together, typical day. That night is the M's game against the Royals at 7:10pm. Pick up the boys from school or they walk. I get home at 5pm at the latest. We turn around and head down to the game. Where do we have dinner? Should we try to do the Space Needle this night? I am more likely to get away earlier from work that day (as Tues & Wed are study days).

Tuesday - The middle schoolers go to class together, the exchange students have a field trip to the Seattle Center and Space Needle (starts 9:30am). Oldest to meet exchange student in Japanese teacher's room after school. Pick up the boys from school or they walk. I get home about 6pm. We turn around and head to the Space Needle for dinner....too much to do this evening? What about Sunday? Monday? Make sure to pack that night for flight back to Japan.

Wednesday - Middle schoolers go to school.  Exchange student is to bring luggage to Cafeteria and should arrive at 7:40. Farewell assembly in Auditorium at 7:55 (can get a request to report from any teacher to attend during first period). At 9am the yellow bus departs to take exchange students back to Japan.

Working out the details now....
